Vantage Asset Management (“Vantage”) is a Toronto based investment company focused on opportunities within the Canadian equity market. The company was founded by two experienced capital market professionals, Darren Gottlieb and Mark Tredgett. Vantage’s investment team is dedicated to a single investment mandate with onshore and offshore funds available.
The investment objective of The Vantage Fund is to generate 10-15% annual net returns, but to accomplish the return profile with a risk profile (volatility) materially below the Canadian equity market – specifically the S&P/TSX Composite and S&P/TSX Small Cap indices (total return). The individual investment strategies employed to accomplish this objective include the following:
1. Hedged Investments (Pairs)
2. M&A Arbitrage
3. Dedicated Long Positions
4. Dedicated Short Positions
Vantage Asset Management was founded in May of 2009. Prior to the firm’s foundation, the investment strategy was successfully managed for 4.5 years within a sophisticated alternative investment company based in Toronto (Royal Capital Management). The 4.5 year track record at Royal Capital Management was independently audited by KPMG. In aggregate, Vantage’s investment strategy has been successfully managed for six years and generated significant outperformance relative to the Canadian equity market. Equally important, the annual volatility of Vantage’s strategy is materially below the aforementioned Canadian equity indices over the investment period.
As of July 31st 2011, the 71 month investment profile reflects a +13.9% compound annual return with annualized volatility of 9.9%. The corresponding investment period is April 1st 2005 to September 30th 2009 within Royal Capital Management and March 1st 2010 to July 31st 2011 within Vantage. The mandate was not managed for five months between October 1st 2009 and February 28th 2010 during the establishment of Vantage (regulatory registrations, fund documentation, counterparty evaluations, etc.).

Mark Tredgett
Mark Tredgett is the managing partner and co-founder of Vantage Asset Management, a Toronto-based alternative investment company. Vantage’s investment mandate was successfully managed within a Toronto-based investment company between April 2005 and September 2009. The mandate was re-launched under the Vantage banner in March of 2010 and made available to external investors for the first time. Vantage was fortunate to enjoy a successful re-launch of the strategy in 2010 and currently manages $80 million in AUM for predominantly institutional investors. Onshore and offshore versions of the investment strategy are available.
Mark Tredgett’s professional career spans 20 years with significant institutional experience in domestic and international equity markets. Mark’s capital markets career began in London England where he spent six years working within the institutional equity divisions of Credit-Suisse First Boston and Robertson Stephens. In 2004 Mark returned to Canada where he headed National Bank Financial’s institutional hedge fund group. While at National Bank Financial, Mark managed a team of seven professionals responsible for building the company’s institutional equity business with event driven and long/short managers in North America.
Mark holds a degree in Economics from the University of Western Ontario (1991) and a Masters from the London School of Economics (1998).
