KEYNOTE SPEAKER
Thomas Caldwell, Founder & Chairman, Caldwell Securities
Thomas S. Caldwell graduated from McGill University in 1965, and has been actively involved in the investment industry since that time. Mr. Caldwell is Chairman of Caldwell Securities Ltd., an organization founded in 1980. Caldwell Securities Ltd. is a diversified investment company with affiliate organizations providing investment management, brokerage and insurance services to a broad spectrum of investors throughout North America and around the world. Mr. Caldwell is President and a Director of Urbana Corporation, a publicly traded investment company. He also serves on the Board of the Conference of Defence Associations Institute in Ottawa and is a Senior Board Adviser to EM Hallowell LLC, Boston, a world leader in treating adults and children with ADHD. Mr. Caldwell is a past Governor of the Toronto Stock Exchange and one of the leading experts in capital markets, particularly in trading environments. He is recognized as one of the world’s foremost investors in securities exchanges. Caldwell Securities Ltd. and its affiliates were the second-largest owners of the New York Stock Exchange prior to the NYSE’s demutualization. Mr. Caldwell has, through his career, been actively involved in addressing social and community needs. He was awarded Her Majesty’s Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002 for his activities on behalf of Canadian Veterans. In 2003 he was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada for his work in assisting those in need as well as contributing to institutions working to better the lives of others. In 2012, he received Her Majesty's Diamond Jubilee for his efforts on behalf of the disadvantaged. Mr. Caldwell and his wife Dorothy have been married since 1966 and have two sons, Brendan and Theo, and four grandchildren.

Before joining Group First, Ruth had many years of private business ownership.
During this period Ruth developed relationships not only within the United Kingdom, but also in the USA, Canada and South East Asia.

Ruth is now PA to Toby Whittaker, Managing Director and owner of Group First, responsible for world-wide customer and sales relationship management.
Because of her extensive experience in this field Ruth is acknowledged as an integral part of Group First's recognised commitment to service standards.

Pat Bolland, Media Consultant
Longtime business commentator Pat Bolland has been a business thought leader north and south of the border. Pat worked his way up in the investment industry from floor clerk on the Toronto Stock Exchange to VP with a top tier firm before moving into broadcasting. Pat’s been business editor at four major networks, currently Sun New Network on ‘AM Agenda’. He has parlayed his TV hosting skills into media training, corporate PR as well as hosting, moderating and webcasting for events and conferences. Not to mention a lot of lacrosse coaching. Despite all his business and sport acumen he’s best known as “the guy with the ‘stache”. Follow him at @patbolland.
Jason Brooks, Partner, Borden Ladner Gervais LLP
Jason Brooks is a partner in the Vancouver office of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP. He is a member of BLG’s Securities and Capital Markets Group and is the Vancouver Regional Leader of the Investment Management Focus Group. Jason’s practice focuses on advising Canadian and foreign-based clients engaged in all aspects of the investment management industry, including investment fund managers, portfolio managers, dealers, financial institutions and service providers. He has extensive experience advising clients on the formation, management and operation of public and private investment funds in Canada and the offering of their securities in public offerings and private placement transactions.
Jason also regularly advises and assists clients seeking to obtain and maintain registration with Canadian securities regulators and/or self-regulatory organizations, and provides advice on a wide range of registration, regulatory and compliance matters affecting registered firms and individuals, including developing, reviewing and assessing compliance procedures and practices. He has obtained novel exemptive relief from a wide variety of prospectus, registration, conflict of interest and other compliance requirements under Canadian securities laws.

Elaine Cheung, Partner, KPMG LLP
With over 10 years experience in US - Cross Border tax planning, Elaine has extensive experience in advising clients on US tax consulting matters. She integrates Canadian-US tax rules to provide relevant advice and strategic planning to her clients. Elaine serves clients in a variety of industries, including real estate, private-equity, mining and retail. She focuses on developing and implementing tax-efficient acquisition and financing structures, initial public offerings, and reorganizations. She also has extensive experience in implementing private-equity and public partnership cross-border fund structures. Elaine has considerable experience in treaty interpretation, partnerships, US reorganizations, FIRPTA, FATCA and US real estate investment trusts (REITs).

Skye Collyer, Vice President, Sales & Marketing, AlphaNorth Asset Management
Skye Collyer plays a key role on the AlphaNorth leadership team as Vice President, Sales and Marketing. Skye is responsible for marketing and communication initiatives as well as investor and media relations in support of fund launches, ongoing sales and closings. She joined AlphaNorth in 2010, bringing a multidisciplinary investment and marketing perspective developed through her unique background in both the investment world and the current multi-media environment. After earning a BFA (Hon.) from Ryerson University in 2006, Skye worked as a television and media personality for several entertainment television and online networks and performed live and on-camera hosting for sports, marketing, PR and philanthropic events. Skye also completed her Canadian Securities Course (CSC), Conduct and Practices Handbook Course (CPH) and 90-day Investment Advisor Training Program while working in the retail investment world, where she held a position with a leading global independent investment dealer prior to joining AlphaNorth. In 2010, Skye was featured in Stock & Awe, a viewer-education situational series for investors which aired nationally on both BNN and CTV.

Russ Crawford, Partner, KPMG LLP
Russ has 32 years of experience in US international tax matters. He is the Co-Leader of KPMG’s Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) team in Canada. Russ has held various positions in the US firm, including Partner-in-Charge of the Pacific Northwest Tax Practice, Managing Partner of the Seattle office, and Partner-in-Charge of the New York and Northeast Region’s International Corporate Services practice of KPMG LLP (US). He also spent one year on a rotational assignment in the corporate mergers and acquisition group of KPMG in Washington’s National Tax practice. Russ has previously headed up KPMG Meijburg & Co’s US Tax Center in The Netherlands.

Mehran Ehsan, President & CEO, Energy Resources Corp.
Mr. Ehsan has over a decade of experience in the oil and gas and private equity sectors. He has led teams in the creation of many upstream oil and gas companies with a focus on acquisitions and divestitures. Over the ten years Mr. Ehsan has been involved as a manager in mergers, acquisitions & divestitures, financing arrangements and investment with a specialty in oil and gas opportunities. He has been directly involved and facilitated syndication of over $82 million in capital syndication and injection within various investment markets. He is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Kentucky Petroleum Operating Permex Petroleum Operating, N.A Energy Resources Investment Corp. He is also the President and Chief Executive Officer of N.A Energy Resources Corp., an oil and gas investment company focused on the recovery of hydrocarbon reserves through acquisitions and project development, with a major emphasis on mature and marginal field enhancement, developmental exploitation drilling. Mr. Ehsans' vast experience ranges from private to public & government based oil and gas transactions; he has worked with Oil & Gas companies such as Marun Oil & Gas Production, West Texas Investment Corp and Renewable Energy Companies such as Excelsior, Other corporate involvements of Mr. Ehsan range from Corporate Finance at Triledor Entertainment, a motion picture production and financing firm to Darmar Industries a land based aqua culture product which Mr. Ehsan sits on an advisory basis. Mr. Ehsan comes from a background of corporate finance and business management. His academic background ranges from a spectrum of marketing management, business management, wealth management and Petroleum based curriculums and programs. Mr. Ehsan has authored various articles in the oil and gas industry, with presence as a guest speaker and judge in both this industry and academia related events.

Peter Figura, Director of National Sales, Centurion REIT
Peter has over 18 years of Financial Services industry experience. His management focus is the development and implementation of comprehensive wholesaling programs with an emphasis on their alignment with company business goals. Working with executive management groups, Peter has helped in the design, implementation and approval of several financial products that were brought to the market.
Peter’s investment career include roles of financial advisor with major Canadian full service investment dealers, senior manager of investment department with one of the major Ontario Credit Unions, Director of Investment Marketing with one of the independent financial advisory organizations, and VP Business Development with an independent investment services organization.
Peter has an MBA from the University of Toronto, and completed many of the industry required professional courses.
Peter is a regular business commentator on the news channel CP24, and a contributor to Exempt Market Watch, and The Exempt Edge, a publication of the National Exempt Market Association.

Scotty Grubb, Senior Vice President, Prestigious Investment & Management Group
Scotty is a Senior Business Development Professional with key roles in the financing and operations of numerous public and private companies over the past 30 years. He completed his education in Scotland before immigrating to Canada in 1968, where he became involved in a series of successful business development enterprises. His stellar reputation as a manager and financier have helped him raise in excess of $60 million in the Public and Private sectors.
Scotty utilizes his his extensive experience and in-depth knowledge of the financial industry as the Senior Vice President of Prestigious Properties and as a registered Exempt Market Representative.
Peter Hayes, National Director, Alternative Investments Practice, KPMG
Peter Hayes is the National Director of KPMG’s Canadian Alternative Investments practice. He has more than 12 years of professional experience serving Canadian, US and international private investment funds, reporting issuer mutual funds and asset managers, and their service providers. Peter re-joined KPMG after spending several years developing and managing alternative investment products with Citigroup Alternative Investments in New York. He was previously an audit manager in the Alternative Investments practice of KPMG in the Cayman Islands. Peter started his career with KPMG in Vancouver serving clients in a variety of industries. Peter is a member of the Legal & Finance Committee of the Alternative Investment Management Association (Canada Chapter) and the Treasurer of the Canadian Securities Lending Association.
Kyle Jacober, Vice President, Sales, Raintree Financial Solutions
Kyle began his investment career over twelve years ago specializing in mutual funds. Learning the investment ropes early, he developed a professional framework for success. In building his own exempt market investment business, Kyle never wavers from this framework which is founded on four principles:
1) building trusted and sincere relationships is a most precious privilege,
2) You have to have a genuine desire to help people to be successful
3) listening and understanding client needs is the only way to build relationships

Peter Klein, Advising Principal & Portfolio Manager, KCS Fund Strategies Inc.
Peter is Advising Principal and Portfolio Manager of KCS Fund Strategies Inc., a hedge fund investment manager and consulting firm located in Vancouver, B.C. Peter is also a Professor of finance in the Beedie School of Business at Simon Fraser University and is the Faculty Supervisor for Beedie Endowment Asset Management. He is a trustee of the Simon Fraser University Academic Pension plan and is the Director of the Centre for Studies in Wealth Management. Previously he was a Vice-President with CIBC/Wood Gundy Inc. and participated in a wide range of capital market activities in their Toronto, Tokyo and London, U.K. offices.
Peter holds a Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Toronto, an M.B.A., LL.B. and B.Sc. from the University of Western Ontario, and is a Chartered Financial Analyst, Chartered Business Valuator and Certified General Accountant.

Andrew McCreath, Founder, Forge First Asset Management Inc.
Andrew McCreath is the Founder of Forge First Asset Management Inc. His 25 years' of investment industry experience includes more than 15 years of managing money during which time he was a founding shareholder of two successful money management organizations that were sold to larger organizations.
Mr. McCreath has won Lipper and Morningstar investment industry awards for his management of mutual fund and hedge fund products, respectively. Prior to being a fund manager, Mr. McCreath was a top-ranked securities analyst at leading investment banks. At the Manager, Mr. McCreath is the CEO & CIO of the organization. Kurankye graduated from York University in 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) in Economics and earned his CFA designation in 2000. From 1997 to 2001, Kurankye was Director, Debt Capital Markets at CIBC World Markets where he was responsible for marketing various fixed-income securities and structured products through CIBC Wood Gundy investment advisors. From 2001 to 2003, he was Regional Vice-President, Sales for Mackenzie Financial. Kurankye was responsible for sales & marketing for frontierAlt Capital Corporation from the firm's inception in 2003 through 2008. Matthew Skerry, Vice President, Marketing, A2A Capital Services Canada Inc.
Matthew joined the A2A team as their first Canadian head of Marketing and Training just prior to their launch in early 2013.
Having worked with other major international real estate investment firms over the last eight years, Matthew gained extensive exposure to all aspects of structuring, marketing and servicing exclusive real estate investments to a wide and diverse client base.
Matthew returned to Canada in 2012 after 5 years in Southeast Asia, living and operating in several countries where he lead a team of over 150 representatives offering structured real estate products to retail and institutional investors in Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia.

Bob Thompson, Vice President, Portfolio Manager, Alternative Investment Strategist, Canaccord Financial
Bob is a graduate of Simon Fraser University (Bachelor of Science), with a special interest in the science of finance and money management. In 1996, Mr. Thompson became a featured columnist on investment strategy for several syndicated newspapers across the country. His perspective and insights on the market have been featured in the Globe and Mail and the Financial Post, and he is a frequent guest on Business News Network Television. Prior to joining Omniarch Capital Mr. Todd was Vice President of Sales with a Western Canadian Distributor and one of Canada¹s largest Investment Education Associations.
Mr. Todd¹s experience also includes positions as Executive Vice President of Business Development and Vice President or Sales within both the Electronics Manufacturing Services and Telecommunications Industries.

Leslie Toth, VP of Business Development, The Jaymor Group
Leslie Toth, Originally a Sound Engineer from Budapest, Hungary, came to Canada with his wife Irene 25 years ago. They settled in Calgary, AB, where they have been raising their two children Stephanie and Jonathan. Leslie joined the Financial World as an Insurance agent in 1995 and built a very successful agency over the next decade. Rick Unrau, President & CEO, Pinnacle Wealth Brokers Inc.
Rick Unrau brings over 23 years of experience at a Senior Executive level to his role with Pinnacle Wealth Brokers. A strategic thinker with a broad financial and operational background, his experience includes executive positions in both the public and private sectors. Rick has extensive experience in real estate development, contract negotiations, deal structure and business plan analysis. He holds a Bachelor of Management degree from the University of Lethbridge, with a focus on finance and accounting.
Prior to joining Pinnacle, Rick co-founded and developed Global Exempt Market Solutions (GEMS); an independent financial services brokerage focused on the distribution of exempt offerings. GEMS became one of the largest competing Exempt Market Dealerships in the Western Canadian marketplace prior to its acquisition by Pinnacle. In addition, Rick was the Chief Operating Officer of the public telecommunications company Shift Networks, which focused on the delivery of emerging VoIP technology into the small business market. Other roles included Director of Real Estate and Corporate Services for Bell West and the Director of Client Services for Jawz Canada.
Rick is a competitive sports enthusiast and is still active in the local sports community. Rick resides in Calgary with his wife Tanya, and their two sons Kyle and Luke.
Barry Whelan, Chief Operating Officer/Director, Energy Resources Corporation
Barry Whelan has more than 40 years' experience as a geologist, Initially with Gulf Oil in International Operations, then he has worked with such companies as KOS Energy Ltd., Next Millennium Commercial Corp., Opal Energy Ltd., Copper Creek Ventures Ltd., Avro Energy, Polar Resources Ltd., ProAm Exploration Corporation, Voyageur Oil and Gas Corp., Bighorn Petroleum to name a few. Mr. Whelan has represented a diverse array of energy market participants including oil, gas and other resources based companies with clients ranging from global energy concerns to start-up companies. As a Geological Consultant, Mr. Whelan has been active in natural resource and industrial development companies with natural resource holdings in oil, gas and minerals, worldwide. Responsibilities include: economic evaluations of properties; research and development of projects which have economic potential; evaluation of projects and their requirements for capital; presentations to management, financial institutions, and shareholders; economic analysis of resource properties and coordination of acquisition, development and production for resource properties; filing of V.S.E. reports, assessment reports and property evaluations for petroleum and mining companies on resource properties. Mr. Whelan received his Bachelor of Arts, Geology, from University of Western Ontario in 1961, Bachelors of Science, Honours Geology, McMaster University, 1965. He is or has been also a member of Geological Association of Canada, Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists BC, Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta, Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists, Institute of Petroleum, London.
Michael White, President & CEO, IBK Capital Corp.
Michael White is President and CEO of IBK Capital Corp., a private boutique investment bank located in Toronto, Canada. Over the last 20 years, he has raised funds and personally invested in private placement financings totalling over $500 million. He has also been active in financial advisory assignments and mining industry developments pertaining to the nickel deposits at Voisey’s Bay in Labrador; the nickel and chromite deposits in the 'Ring of Fire' area of northern Ontario; the Mesquite gold mine in south-eastern California; and, the Detour gold camp of north-eastern Ontario to name a few. Mr. White has a BA in Geology from the University of Western Ontario, and a Masters of Business Administration degree from the Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario.

Jordan Zinberg, Partner & Portfolio Manager, Donville Kent Asset Management
Jordan Zinberg is a Partner and Vice President at Donville Kent Asset Management and has been with the firm since 2009. Prior to joining Donville Kent, Jordan spent 7 years with one of Canada’s largest investment firms, with experience in both trading and portfolio management. Jordan has an MBA from the Schulich School of Business, holds the Canadian Investment Manager designation and is a Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute. In addition, Jordan is a regular guest on BNN’s Market Sense. The Donville Kent Capital Ideas Fund is one of Canada’s top performing hedge funds, and was awarded the Best New Fund in Canada at the 2009 Canadian Hedge Fund awards.
